'Stitch-up' nuclear consultation exposed in new video

Greenpeace has released a video detailing the Government's continued mishandling of the nuclear consultation process.

With its first attempts at a consultation declared 'seriously flawed' and 'manifestly unfair' by a High Court Judge in February, Whitehall set about a much-trumpeted second round of consultations.

But, as Greenpeace reveal, this new consultation has asked loaded questions to which members of the public not acquainted with the dangers of nuclear power can only give one answer. The campaign group has also shown that the Government has repeatedly tried to hide the fact that nuclear power is responsible for only 4 per cent of total energy use in this country, and will have a negligible impact on tackling climate change.

Friends of the Earth Energy Campaigner Neil Crumpton told the Ecologist that the Government's consultation 'stimulus materials' failed to give any sense of an alternative to nuclear power so that consultees might make an informed decision.
