The Green Ireland travel app: the Emerald Isle just got greener

Want to find a way to enjoy the incredible landscapes of Ireland without leaving your carbon footprints all over them? There’s an app for that!

Most of us would like to travel in a more eco-friendly way but, beyond carbon offsetting, find that putting green intentions into practice is easier said than done. Fortunately, thanks to a new Ireland Eco Travel IPhone app designed by ethical travel writer Catherine Mack, going green in Ireland just got a little easier. This app gives information, not only on destinations to explore, but also on green accommodation and eco-friendly places to eat. It even tells you how to get there in a low impact way and provides lots of information about local farmers markets.

Designer Catherine Mack believes that taking greener holidays is a growing trend but says a lack of information has made it difficult. Now, with over 120 locations included, there’s no shortage of options. Top picks include cycling across the picturesque foothills of Ben Bulben, a stay on an organic farm in South Reen and a wildlife trip that includes whale watching during the day and sea kayaking at dusk with an expert on marine wildlife. And that’s just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. The sheer range of activities and hotels featured makes this an invaluable tool for holidaymakers and business travellers alike.

The app costs £1.79 and is available from the Apple iTunes store
