PICK OF THE DAY: The Good Shopping Guide ethical shopping app

|
You’ve read the book, now try the smart phone app: the Good Shopping Guide makes buying green a cinch

Imagine yourself staring at shelves upon shelves crammed with a bewildering variety of branded products, while scratching your head and wondering which is best for you – and for the environment. Sound familiar? For most of us, this is a daily event, whether you’re buying clothes, gifts or just your lunch. But that could be about to change, thanks to The Ethical Company Organisation’s Good Shopping Guide app. If the words ‘Good Shopping Guide’ sound familiar, that’s because a book of the same name came out last year. But while a book is handy if you’re shopping online, if you’re out and about, it’s a nuisance. Enter the app.

Initially available for iPhone, iPod and iTouch, the app costs £2.99, and allows you to compare an enormous range of like-for-like brands, cutting through the greenwash. Each brand gets an ethical rating based on 14 different factors, including the environment, human rights and animal welfare, making it easy to work out which option is the eco-friendliest. Split into seven sections: Food and Drink, Health and Beauty, Travel, Energy, Fashion, Home and Office and Money, practically everything you could ever want is covered and better still, 10 per cent of revenue will go to eco-charity, Friends of the Earth. Handy: yes. Green: definitely.

To download the app or find out more, see the iTunes Store

Once you have downloaded the App, visit the Ethical Company Organization's Website and recieve a free copy of the Good Shopping Guide in paperback.
