Winchester Students' Union has won this year's Ecologist Communications Challenge Award.
The students' short film, which you can watch at the bottom of this article, depicts a 21st century Charlie Chaplin character, who ultimately learns that doing the small things has a big impact on the environment.
The award was part of the NUS Sound Impact Awards sponsored by the Co-operative, which rewards good environmental practice in students' unions.
A total of 83 Unions took part with stand out successes including:
- Newcastle University Union picking up The Co-operative International Development Award for collecting 18,000 used textbooks from schools and sending them out to schools in Tanzania. (You can watch a video about their project here);
- University of Bradford Union winning the Green Innovation Award for running a successful computer re-use project, rejuvenating PCs and donating them to local schools;
- And Edinburgh University Students' Association picking up the overall award for getting the University to ensure that medicines developed on campus are provided at cost to the world’s poorest countries.
A full list of the winners can be found on the Awards website: www.nus.org.uk/sound.
