Born in 1992 under a railway arch in Kings Cross, the festival has grown in size and stature over the years, but remains true to its founding goals of promoting green lifestyles, educating the public about the natural world, and making sure everyone has a great time too.
This year, the festival will feature two stages with live bands and DJ’s playing the best contemporary, world, and festival music, as well as classical performances from an 80-piece orchestra in a beautiful natural amphitheatre. Those of a more cerebral bent can engage with the debates in the Speaker’s Area, where some of the most high profile names in the environmental movement will be discussing green living (last year featured Ken Livingstone and Jenny Jones). For the kids, a 
fantastic childrens’ area will have loads for all ages, including dance classes, music, story telling, performance and play space.
And that’s not all. The Green Fair will also include a Bike Festival, unique outdoor theatre performances, organic bars and global cuisine, poetry and spoken word recitals, educational exhibitions, and a dedicated London permaculture area. Not to mention, of course, the unique selection of green and fair-trade market stalls, providing visitors with a range of products that are not only environmentally sound, but also rarely found in mainstream shops. And, for 2012, the festival will be giving away over 1000 trees to visitors, to help offset its carbon footprint.
Staffed entirely by volunteers, powered entirely by renewable wind, solar and hydrogen, and run as a not-for-profit social enterprise, the 
London Green Fair relies on the support of many local businesses and organisations, community groups and campaigning organisations, ensuring that there’s a real sense of community and inclusion.
Festival Director, Sinclair Eiloart, said “In these difficult times, and in the face of mass commercialization of events, we are delighted to be able to produce this free festival celebrating all that is good and green about London and the UK. Dedicated to access, diversity and inclusion - it’s a unique environmental event, with lots of fantastic things planned to entertain and inspire the whole family. “
