Best of British: Organic Places to Stay

|
From John O’ Groats to Land’s End, Linda Moss’ Organic Places to Stay has green travellers covered

The UK isn’t short of a great weekend destination or two, as visitors to cities such as London, Belfast and Edinburgh will attest. Historic buildings, wonderful places to eat and a huge range of shopping spots have made these metropolises increasingly popular choices for a short break. Away from the urban sprawl, the picturesque British countryside with its patchwork fields and pretty villages is well worth a visit, as are seaside towns such as Lynmouth in Devon, Fowey in Cornwall and Whitstable in North Yorkshire. With so much choice around, finding eco-friendly accommodation can be a bit of a mission. Until now, that is.

Actually that’s a bit of an overstatement since Linda Moss’ excellent and hugely useful tome, Organic Places to Stay, is now in its third edition. But that doesn't mean it's not ahead of the game, as the newly updated third edition proves. Divided by region and split again by county, the book features an exhaustive list of organic, eco-friendly B&Bs, campsites and hotels, with a wide range of prices. Top picks include the picturesque Cuckoo Farm in Modbury, Devon, the Soil Association-certified Traddock Hotel in Yorkshire and the lovely Scottish B&B, Invertay House, located at the western end of Loch Tay.
